Published by admin in General, Website InfoI am looking for the ultimate fan of survival TV shows – Survivorman, Man vs Wild, Ray Mears: Extreme Survival, Survivor, Mantracker, Lost – basically anything survivor-themed. I work on a TV show called TV Made Me Do It. We’re trying to find someone who feels like they’ll be able to survive two days in the bush with no food, no water, no shelter, and no tools - with lessons learned from watching TV and a crash course in survival that we’ll put you through with the expert who taught Les Stroud his wilderness training. If you are interested please email Karyn MacEwen, Associate Producer: Karyn@propertelevision.com
Are You The New Survivorman?
Published by admin in Website InfoI got an email today from a TV producer that is looking for people who are inspired by telivition. So inspired that they live the life of the reality TV people that they watch. So, if you go out and tape yourself, just like Survivorman. Then you might be able to get on TV yourself. Below is what they emailed me:
We invented TV, and now TV is reinventing us.
TV Made Me Do It is a new documentary series that explores how TV inspires the people who watch it.
As Bart Simpson once said, “It’s hard not to believe TV, it’s spent so much time raising us.” Like it or not (and we kinda do), no invention has come close to influencing us the way TV has. Television has inspired us to become would-be doctors, poker experts, pop divas, private eyes, forensic pathologists, and over-eager shoppers. It influences what our homes look like and what cars we drive. It can scare us into hiding or inspire us to take on our worst fears.
So what has TV made you do?
Has your love of home reno shows inspired you to gut your house? Do TV weather forecasts have you too afraid to leave the house? Has TV made you quit your job, leave your husband, change your identity, or discover your true sexual orientation?
All 13 half-hour episodes of TV Made Me Do It has a unique theme. These include: TV Made Me a Extreme Stunt Punk, TV Made Me a CSI, TV Made Me Come Out of the Closet, TV Made Me a Superhero, TV Made Me a Weather Junkie, TV Made Me a Survivalist, and TV Made Me a Bounty Hunter.
TV Made Me Do It profiles people just like you – but a little bit different. We’ll explore why they’ve done what they’ve done and give viewers a front row seat as they – chase tornadoes in South Dakota; hunt for bad guys on the mean streets of Sacramento California; are wheeled into an operating room for some TV inspired plastic surgery; win or lose at the Roller Derby championships in Austin Texas; or come out of the closet to their closest friend .
Using a fun blend of classic TV clips, first-person testimonials and expert commentary, TV Made Me Do It examines how TV has altered our world for good, bad, bold and beautiful.
TV Made Me Do It is produced by Proper Television for the CanWest MediaWorks’ TVTropolis network.
Format: 13 x ½ hour episodes – NTSC D-Beta
Target Audience: Youth and adult – ages 18 and up
Style: Pop Doc
Broadcast Partners: CanWest MediaWorks Inc.
Les Stroud In High School

Les Stroud - Survivorman Bio
Published by admin in SurvivormanLes Stroud, the popular adventurer who pits himself against nature on Survivorman, was born on October 20,1962, in Mimico, Ontario. After receiving a diploma from Mimico High in 1980, Stroud attended Fanshawe College and completed their Music Industry Arts program.
This led Les Stroud to work in the music industry for a few years. Stroud was employed by MuchMusic as an associate producer. He also served as assistant director of music videos for many well-known artists. Stroud then spent some time playing lead guitar in a band called New Regime.
A single canoe trip created a desire for more. Stroud took a job with Black Feather Wilderness Adventures. This gave him the opportunity to help others enjoy the beauty of northern Ontario as he guided their canoe course.
While working as a guide, Les Stroud became intrigued with a photographer named Sue Jamison. They proved to be a great team and wed in 1994. The wedding had an appropriate setting. The couple said their vows on a dogsled next to a small pond. Stroud and his new bride took great care to document their honeymoon, a year long adventure in the wilds of Wabakimi, Ontario.
Taking only a supply of basic food sources, the Strouds managed to live in the area around Goldsborough Lake for twelve months. During that period, they only left the area two times to take care of emergency situations. Without modern tools, they managed to build a cabin and to feed themselves by hunting and trapping.
They used the materials from their honeymoon adventure to produce a documentary, Snowshoes and Solitude. The documentary was highly praised. The Strouds’ work even received a Best Documentary Award at the Muskoka Film Festival. The Waterwalker Film Festival also gave it the honor of Best Film.
The Strouds then settled in Yellowknife, part of the Northwest Territories. Les Stroud signed on to work with individuals with special needs who were native to the area. He worked with Gino Ferri and David Arama, a couple of survivalist experts. He later added to this experience by training with Prairie Wolf.
After honing his survival skills to perfection, Les and Sue moved to Huntsville, Ontario. This is where the Strouds’ dream began. They started a company called Wilderness Voice and a began a sister media company which they dubbed Wilderness Spirit Productions.
Les Stroud developed a keen interest in the new Survivor television series. He felt that more realism would add to the program and presented his vision to The Discovery Channel Canada. The executives were interested enough in Stroud’s idea to allow him to produce two specials. The first show was called One Week in the Wilderness. Winter in the Wilderness followed quickly, and both programs were highly successful.
This led to the Les Stroud’s next project. The science news show @ discovery.ca asked Stroud to produce a couple of specials in 2001. He completed the project using the same programming design as Survivorman. This involved Stroud taping his own trials and tribulations as he pitted himself against the perils of nature.
When these two pilots aired, the public had found a new hero and were fascinated with Les Stroud. In 2004, Stroud was asked to work with Dave Brady, a producer from the Discovery Channel in the United States. Working together, they created nine episodes of Survivorman. The show was so successful that a second season was produced and began airing on the U.S. Discovery Channel on August 10, 2007.
Although busy with film work, Les Stroud has never lost his love for music and continues to work in the industry. He has even managed to turn out a CD which features him playing the harmonica. The self-titled album is a selection of acoustical blues and folk songs, reflecting the true free spirit of its creator. In New Liskeard, Ontario, at the Spirit of the North Music Festival, Stroud received both the “Best Blues Act” award and the “Best Overall” label. He has also joined with The Northern Pikes to create a cd .
Les and Sue Stroud currently have two children. Their daughter Raylan is eleven, and their son Logan is nine. The entire family has been involved in Stroud’s unusual lifestyle.
Les Stroud sees his television program as an opportunity to teach while entertaining. He encourages his viewers to show respect for the environment and to maintain control in dangerous situations. Conservation, to Les Stroud, is everyone’s responsibility. Survivorman is his venue for getting these points across to the public.

Les Stroud on Off The Grid
Published by admin in Survival, Survivorman
I was surfing Les Stroud’s main website today and saw that he will be publishing a 2 part show called “Off The Grid” which will show Les and his family move to a 150 acre lot with a bunch of go green stuff. But done take my word for it, here is the exact description on the website.
While renegotiating doing another season of Survivorman, Les Stroud is producing two one-hour specials for Canada’s OLN (Outdoor Life Network) called Off The Grid with Les Stroud. This new and captivating show will highlight Les’ family’s move to their 150 acre bush lot with solar power, rain harvesting systems, and many new technologies for living an energy-conscious and self-sustaining life.
Im very excited for this, I love this kinda stuff. However I will have to purchase it, because we don’t get Canadian TV in the US :)
